SEAT commitment to renewable energy project "Seat al Sol"

At the beginning of next year will begin implementation of the "Seat of the Sun" which will generate clean electricity at the factory in Martorell. This project is a clear commitment to SEAT for reducing emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere and environment protection, taking full advantage of the best known features of Spain: the sun and the long hours that shines in the area Martorell and vicinity.

The project was developed jointly with GA-Solar, owned by the corporation GESTAMP, and aims to achieve a distributed generation of electrical energy, ie renewable energy generated in the same place of consumption.

For this purpose, includes the installation of solar panels in an area of over 320,000 m2 of covered include workshops and factory buildings as well as in what is a truly innovative project, the field of storage of vehicles produced .

Thus, the PV plant will have an installed capacity of over 10 MW, which will generate more than 13 million kWh. per year, ie an amount equivalent to the electricity consumption of 3,000 households conducted annually. As a result, a total of more than 6,200 tonnes of CO2 will be emitted into the atmosphere.

The first renewable energy will be achieved next year already

In early 2010, will begin building the first phase of the project - which is already included in the pre-registration fee allocation in the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce - that will reach 4 MW of installed power and will become fully operational during the same year 2010. The investments proposed for implementation of this first phase will be 17 million Euros.

When it is operational the first phase, the PV plant in the SEAT factory in Martorell will become the second installation on deck with greater capacity for clean electricity production in Spain and one of the largest in Europe.

Seat With this project, it is clear that a car manufacturer can not only help the environment by producing cars with lower emissions, but can do so for the manner in which the production, development and subsequent recycling of their products have the least impact therein.
